A bent shaft can occur as a result of damage during shipment, rigging, or operation. Shaft straightening methods, when properly applied, can sometimes be used to salvage damaged shafting.
Bent shafts caused by assembly stack-up stresses are usually not correctable by simply straightening the shaft itself. The assembly needs to be analyzed as a complete unit and corrected accordingly. A successful shaft straightening repair is dependent on several interrelated variables, with the result that a method that is successful in one case may be unsuited for another.
Bend removing methods include Spot Heat Straightening Method and Opposed Heating and Cooling Straightening.
